Day 178 of 199

Day 178: Two Litres a Day

After a seminar at the University of Warsaw, Eliza (A), a first-year student, goes up to her lecturer, Dr Wiśniewska (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

  1. A

Pani doktor, przepraszam, że tyle razy wychodziłam z sali.

Dr Wiśniewska, I'm sorry I left the room so many times.

  2. B

    Zauważyłam. Czy wszystko w porządku?

I noticed. Is everything all right?

  3. A

Tak, organizm potrzebuje wody. PijÄ™ teraz dwa litry dziennie.

Yes, the body needs water. I'm drinking two litres a day now.

  4. B

A ja już podejrzewałam, że ucieka pani z moich nudnych zajęć.

And there I was, suspecting you were escaping from my boring classes.

  5. A

Z nudnych? Tylko na pani zajęciach w ogóle nie chce mi się spać!

Boring? Yours are the only classes where I don't feel sleepy at all!

  6. B

Dziękuję. To przed moimi zajęciami niech pani ogranicza picie, żeby nic pani nie uciekło.

Thank you. Then go easy on the water before my classes, so you don't miss anything.
