Day 120: The Polonaise Problem

In the family flat in 艢widnik, Filomena (A) asks her daughter Ligia (B) why her grandson Kasper (C) doesn't want to go to his studni贸wka, the ball held a hundred days before the school-leaving exams.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Sweetheart, I hear Kasper doesn't want to go to his studni贸wka. What's happened?

    He's embarrassed about the polonaise that opens the ball. He says the whole school will laugh at him.

    Mum, I'm sitting right here. There are five boys and twenty girls in my class, so there's no hiding.

    I sit because no man in this family can lead. We start lessons on Saturday.
