Day 137: The Grandson Who Never Calls

At the bus stop outside their school in Łańcut, Natan (A) tells his classmate Marcelina (B) about a strange phone call his grandmother got the evening before.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    But you spent the whole evening doing our project with me. Did someone fake your voice?

    Tak, sztuczna inteligencja. Temu, kto to zrobił, pewnie wystarczyło kilka sekund z moich filmików.

    Yes, using AI. Whoever did it probably only needed a few seconds from my videos.

    Nie wrzucaj już filmików, na których mówisz. Babcia się nabrała?

    Don't post any more videos of you talking. Did your gran fall for it?

    No co ty! Od razu się zorientowała, bo ja nigdy nie dzwonię pierwszy.

    No way! She realised straight away, because I never ring first.

    Czyli uratowało ją to, że jesteś beznadziejnym wnukiem? Dzwoń częściej, tylko nie po kasę.

    So what saved her is that you're a hopeless grandson? Ring her more often, just not for cash.

    Już ustaliliśmy hasło na takie telefony: „kompot z rabarbaru”. Tylko nikomu go nie zdradzaj.

    We've already agreed on a password for calls like that: 'rhubarb compote'. Just don't give it away to anyone.
