Day 152: Help from the Stands
At home in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, sixteen-year-old Bianka (A) comes back from her referees' course with some news for her mother, Mirela (B).
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Well done! But you do know that at kids' matches lots of dads yell at the referee?

Not just dads. On Saturday, at my little brother's match, you were the one yelling loudest.

Ja tylko pomagałam sędziemu, bo nie widział ręki. To była konstruktywna krytyka.
I was only helping the referee out, because he missed a handball. It was constructive criticism.

Ten sędzia był naszym instruktorem. Dziś zapytał, czy ta pani w czerwonej kurtce to moja mama.
That referee was our instructor. Today he asked me if the lady in the red jacket was my mum.

O rany, i co mu powiedziałaś? Mam iść przeprosić czy zapaść się pod ziemię?
Oh no, and what did you tell him? Should I go and apologise, or just crawl into a hole?

That she's a distant relative. You can come to my first match, but in the same role.
