Day 154: Seventy-Five for Every Hundred

On a Sunday bike ride along the river Bug in Wyszk贸w, Kordian (A), who has just started his first full-time job, tells his older brother, Ernest (B), what he plans to do about PPK, the workplace pension scheme.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Tomorrow I'm opting out of PPK. I hate losing two per cent of my pay every month.

    Nie r贸b tego. Za ka偶de twoje sto z艂otych pracodawca dok艂ada siedemdziesi膮t pi臋膰.

    Don't do it. For every hundred z艂oty you put in, your employer adds seventy-five.

    Tylko 偶e te pieni膮dze zobacz臋 dopiero po sze艣膰dziesi膮tce. A w razie potrzeby?

    Except I won't see that money until I'm sixty. What if I need it?

    You can take it out any time, you'll just lose some of the extra payments. I opted out myself for the same reason.

    And did it pay off? Mum's always telling me to follow your example, because you're sensible.

    Wczoraj policzy艂em, ile mnie kosztowa艂a ta pomy艂ka, i zapisa艂em si臋 z powrotem. Tylko nie m贸w mamie.

    Yesterday I worked out how much that mistake had cost me, and I signed back up. Just don't tell Mum.

    Spokojnie. Od dzi艣 nie jeste艣 dla mnie przyk艂adem, tylko przestrog膮.
