Day 162: The Last Big Screen in Town

At an electronics shop in Stargard during a big football tournament, a young customer (A) asks the shop assistant (B) about the large television on display.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Poproszę ten telewizor z wystawy. Po tylu godzinach pracy chyba należy mu się emerytura, a mnie rabat.

    I'll take the TV on display, please. After all those hours on the job, I reckon it's due a pension, and I'm due a discount.

  2. B

    Emerytury nie przewidujemy, ale w przypadku sprzętu z ekspozycji dajemy dziesięć procent.

    We don't do pensions, but on ex-display items we give ten per cent.

  3. A

    Tylko tyle? W sklepie naprzeciwko byli bardziej skłonni do negocjacji.

    Is that all? The shop across the road was more open to negotiation.

  4. B

    Wydaje mi się, że pan blefuje. Z powodu mistrzostw duże telewizory wykupiono w całym mieście.

    I think you're bluffing. Because of the championships, big TVs have sold out all over town.

  5. A

    Przejrzała mnie pani. Niech będzie dziesięć, ale zabieram go od razu, bo mecz jest o osiemnastej.

    You've seen through me. Ten it is, then, but I'm taking it right away, because the match starts at six.

  6. B

    Dam piętnaście, jeśli odbierze go pan jutro. Dziś cały sklep będzie na nim oglądał mecz.

    I'll give you fifteen if you collect it tomorrow. Tonight the whole shop will be watching the match on it.

  7. A

    Zgoda, ale mecz oglądam tutaj, z państwem. W końcu to mój telewizor.

    Deal, but I'm watching the match here with you. It's my TV, after all.
