Day 19: The Greenest Office in Łódź

In an open-plan office in Łódź on a Monday morning, Szymon (A), a junior analyst, stops by the desk of his manager, Mr Tomasz Pawlak (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Widział pan? Nasz biurowiec został uznany za najbardziej ekologiczny w Łodzi.

    Have you seen? Our building has been named the greenest office block in Łódź.

    Widziałem. Zarząd jest zachwycony, dyplom już wisi w recepcji.

    I have. The board are delighted, and the certificate's already up in reception.

    W sobotę byłem tu po laptopa. Wszędzie świecące lampy i działająca klimatyzacja.

    I came in for my laptop on Saturday. Lights on everywhere and the air conditioning running.

    Wiem. System miał zostać naprawiony jeszcze w maju.

    I know. The system was supposed to be fixed back in May.

  5. A

    Mam to zgłosić administracji? Przecież to zwykłe marnowanie prądu.

    Should I report it to building management? It's just a waste of electricity.

  6. B

    Proszę zgłosić, ale w przyszłym tygodniu. Niech zarząd się jeszcze trochę nacieszy.

    Do report it, but next week. Let the board enjoy it a little longer.
