Day 39: Rent and Roadworks

In her florist's in GrudziÄ…dz, Agnieszka (A), who rents the shop, has a talk with the owner of the building, Mr Roman Czarnecki (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Panie Romanie, rozkopano całą ulicę i klienci przestali przychodzić.

    Roman, they've dug up the whole street, and customers have stopped coming.

  2. B

    WidzÄ™, ale to miasto remontuje torowisko, nie ja.

    I can see that, but it's the council renovating the tram tracks, not me.

  3. A

    Zamknięto też przystanek, obroty spadły o połowę. Proszę o niższy czynsz.

    They've closed the tram stop too, and my takings have halved. I'm asking for a lower rent.

    Niech pani nie przesadza. Przecież obiecano, że w czerwcu będzie po wszystkim.

    Don't exaggerate. They did promise it would all be over by June.

  5. A

    W galerii zwolnił się lokal. Tam nikt nic nie rozkopuje.

    A unit's come free in the shopping centre. Nobody digs anything up there.

  6. B

    Dobrze, dwadzieścia procent do końca remontu. Tylko niech pani nie mówi sąsiadom.

    All right, twenty per cent off until the works are finished. Just don't tell the neighbours.
