Day 41: Grandad's Plot in Jelitkowo
In her grandmother's flat in Gda艅sk, Karolina (A) shows her grandmother Danuta (B) a flat she has found online.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Tyle za jeden pok贸j? My z dziadkiem czekali艣my na mieszkanie ze sp贸艂dzielni dwana艣cie lat.
That much for one room? Your grandad and I waited twelve years for a flat from the housing co-op.

Odk艂adam ka偶d膮 z艂ot贸wk臋, a im d艂u偶ej oszcz臋dzam, tym dalej mi do w艂asnego k膮ta.
I put away every z艂oty, and the longer I save, the further I am from a place of my own.

Gdyby dziadek nie sprzeda艂 dzia艂ki w Jelitkowie, by艂aby艣 dzi艣 zamo偶n膮 pann膮.
If your grandad hadn't sold that plot in Jelitkowo, you'd be a well-off young lady today.

Pierwsze s艂ysz臋! Za ile dziadek j膮 sprzeda艂?
That's the first I've heard of it! How much did Grandad sell it for?

Za malucha. M贸wi艂, 偶e nad morzem za bardzo wieje.
For a Fiat 126p. He said it was too windy by the sea.
