Day 74: Not for the Grandson

At a pharmacy in Piła, Mrs Teresa (A), a regular customer, asks the young pharmacist, Sebastian (B), for a few things she needs before Sunday.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Poproszę plastry, te większe, i jakąś maść na bolące mięśnie.

    I'd like some plasters, the bigger ones, and some cream for sore muscles.

    Proszę bardzo. Czyżby wnuk trenował do jakichś zawodów?

    Here you are. Is your grandson training for a race, by any chance?

    Wnuk leży na kanapie z telefonem. Półmaraton w niedzielę biegnę ja.

    My grandson is lying on the sofa with his phone. I'm the one running the half marathon on Sunday.

    Pani? To gratulujÄ™, bo ja po kilkuset metrach do autobusu ledwo Å‚apiÄ™ oddech.

    You? Well, congratulations, because I can barely breathe after running a few hundred metres for the bus.

    Bo pan całe dnie stoi za ladą, natomiast ja biegam, odkąd jestem na emeryturze.

    That's because you stand behind a counter all day, whereas I've been running ever since I retired.

    Podziwiam panią. Z moją kondycją mogę najwyżej kibicować.

    I admire you. In my shape, the most I can do is cheer.

    W soboty o siódmej biegamy w parku. Kilkanaście osób, a z apteki jeszcze nikt.

    We run in the park on Saturdays at seven. A dozen or so people, and nobody from the pharmacy yet.
