Day 86: The King in the Corner

In front of Jan Matejko's huge painting of the Battle of Grunwald at the National Museum in Warsaw, Asia (A) and Wojtek (B) watch their daughter Tosia (C) do a task from her school worksheet.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Wojtek, give Tosia a minute before you start dropping hints. She's supposed to find the king herself.

    Sure. The king's that knight in red, right in the middle.

    I do, but from a textbook. Looking at a picture that small, you can't see the details.

    There he is! Up in the corner, on the hill, so tiny you can hardly see him.

    Kr贸l dowodzi艂, stoj膮c z boku. Zupe艂nie jak tata, kiedy remontujemy mieszkanie.

    The king gave the orders standing off to one side. Just like Dad when we're doing up the flat.
