Day 91: Silver Coins Near Brodnica

After an archaeology class at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, second-year students Marcel (A) and Paula (B) bring up last night's news with their professor, Magdalena Sowa (C).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Widziałaś wiadomości? Emeryt spod Brodnicy znalazł wykrywaczem garnek srebrnych monet.

    Did you see the news? A pensioner from near Brodnica found a pot of silver coins with a metal detector.

    Pani profesor, może pojedziemy tam w sobotę, aby poszukać reszty?

    Professor, how about we go there on Saturday to look for the rest?

    Bez pozwolenia konserwatora nie wolno niczego szukać, a każde znalezisko należy zgłosić.

    Without a permit from the heritage authority, you're not allowed to search for anything, and every find has to be reported.

    Czyli złamał prawo? A w telewizji zrobili z niego bohatera.

    So he broke the law? And on TV they made him out to be a hero.

  5. C

    Nie złamał, gdyż miał pozwolenie. A w sobotę o szóstej jedziemy tam kopać.

    He didn't, because he had a permit. And on Saturday at six we're going there to dig.

  6. B

    O szóstej rano? To ja chyba wolę oglądać skarby w telewizji.

    At six in the morning? I think I'd rather watch treasure on TV.
