Day 23: Preaching to the Converted

Over the fence between their houses near Rybnik, Tadeusz (A) brings up the new ban on old coal boilers with his neighbour Marek (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Have you heard, Marek? From January there's a ban on old smoky boilers round here.

    Przeczytawszy uchwa艂臋, nadal nie wiem, sk膮d emeryci maj膮 wzi膮膰 pieni膮dze na nowe piece.

    Having read the resolution, I still don't know where pensioners are supposed to find the money for new boilers.

    But there are subsidies covering most of the cost. And the smog the children breathe has its price too.

    True, but first you have to wade through a pile of forms. It took me six months.

    Hang on, you've already replaced your boiler? And here I am preaching to the converted!

    The heat pump's been running since October. And that smoking chimney over the fence is, with all due respect, yours.

    Instead of lecturing the neighbours, I'll start with my own chimney. I'll put in the application this week.
