Day 31: Blink More, Buy Less
In his small optician's shop in Legnica, optometrist Leszek Nowak (B) goes over the results of an eye test with Kamil (A), a young programmer.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Your eyesight is flawless, but everything points to dry eye syndrome.

Suchego oka? Myślałem, że to dolegliwość emerytów, a nie programistów.
Dry eye? I thought that was a pensioner's complaint, not a programmer's.

Wpatrując się w monitor, mrugamy kilka razy na minutę zamiast kilkunastu. Stąd to pieczenie.
When we stare at a monitor, we blink a few times a minute instead of fifteen or so. Hence the stinging.

A okulary z filtrem światła niebieskiego? W pracy wszyscy takie noszą.
What about glasses with a blue-light filter? Everyone at work wears them.

Kosztują kilkaset złotych, a ich skuteczność jest wątpliwa. Wystarczą przerwy i krople za kilkanaście.
They cost several hundred złoty, and it's doubtful they work. Breaks and drops for a dozen or so złoty will do.

Pan chyba nie umie handlować. Poproszę krople i te oprawki z zerówkami, bo wyglądam w nich mądrzej.
You're not much of a salesman, are you? I'll take the drops and those frames with plain lenses, because I look cleverer in them.
