   Let me see. 'It came to pass in Sieradz in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and ninety-seven.' Sounds like a birth certificate.

   Wobec tego masz alibi. Jest i dopisek: „Zarówno ja, jak i czeladnicy moi byliśmy Feliksowi przeciwni, jednakże żona moja nalegała”.

   Then you've got an alibi. There's a postscript too: 'Both I and my journeymen were against Feliks; my wife, however, insisted.'

   Dołożymy własny list. Pisz: „Działo się w Sieradzu roku dwa tysiące dwudziestego szóstego. Komin dymi nadal, a mimo to dom stoi”.

   We'll put in a letter of our own. Take this down: 'It came to pass in Sieradz in the year two thousand and twenty-six. The chimney smokes still, and yet the house stands.'
