   Professor, my article on bison has been accepted without revisions! I sent it off on Monday, and the decision came this morning.

   Do międzynarodowego czasopisma, które samo mnie zaprosiło. Napisali nawet „Szanowna Pani Profesor”, więc chyba mnie cenią.

   To an international journal that invited me itself. They even wrote 'Dear Professor', so they must think highly of me.

   Jest tylko jedna recenzja, w jednym zdaniu: „Artykuł jest znakomity”. I prośba: „W celu publikacji prosimy o dokonanie opłaty w wysokości tysiąca pięciuset dolarów”.

   There's only one review, a single sentence: 'The article is excellent.' And a request: 'In order to proceed with publication, kindly make a payment of one thousand five hundred dollars.'

   Wszystko jasne: drapieżne czasopismo. Biorą pieniądze, a recenzję pozorują, bo prawdziwy recenzent zawsze coś znajdzie, choćby literówkę.

   That settles it: a predatory journal. They take the money and fake the review, because a real reviewer always finds something, even if it's only a typo.

   But their editorial board is made up entirely of doctors and professors from all over the world. People like that wouldn't lend their names to a fraud.

   Some Polish researchers made up a Dr Anna O. Szust and put her name forward for the editorial boards of three hundred and sixty journals. Dozens of predatory ones welcomed her with open arms.

    Napiszemy razem: „W związku z brakiem rzetelnej recenzji wycofuję zgodę na publikację”. Zaadresujemy to do doktor Szust: ona wie najlepiej, jak się tam trafia bez weryfikacji.

    We'll write it together: 'In view of the lack of proper peer review, I withdraw my consent to publication.' And we'll address it to Dr Szust: she knows best how people get in there without any vetting.
