Day 164: The Little Green One
Outside their houses in Janów Lubelski, Mr Czesław (A), an elderly neighbour, sees Mrs Marzena (B), who lives next door, setting off with a basket of mushrooms.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

A
Pani Marzenko, a dokÄ…d to z tymi grzybami?
Marzena, where are you off to with those mushrooms?
-
B
Do sanepidu, sprawdzajÄ… tam grzyby za darmo.
To the health inspectorate, they check mushrooms there for free.
-
A
Po co? Ja mam lepsze oko niż cały sanepid!
What for? I've got a better eye than the whole inspectorate!
-
B
Wiem. Ale ten mały zielony dostałam wczoraj od pana.
I know. But I got this little green one from you yesterday.
-
A
Matko Boska, przecież to muchomor! Najbardziej trujący grzyb w Polsce.
Good Lord, that's a death cap! The most poisonous mushroom in Poland.
-
B
No właśnie. Na pana miejscu poszłabym tam z całym wczorajszym koszykiem.
Exactly. If I were you, I'd go there with the whole of yesterday's basket.
