Day 24: Louder Than the Tram

In a rented flat in Łódź, Mrs Ewa (A) phones her landlord, Mr Andrzej (B), about the washing machine.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Panie Andrzeju, pralka znowu cieknie.

    Andrzej, the washing machine's leaking again.

    Znowu? To przyjadę po pracy i zobaczę.

    Again? I'll come over after work and take a look, then.

    Był już fachowiec. Naprawa wyjdzie drożej niż nowa pralka.

    A repairman's already been. Fixing it will cost more than a new machine.

  4. B

    Trudno, kupię nową. Wolałaby pani większą czy cichszą?

    Oh well, I'll buy a new one. Would you prefer a bigger one or a quieter one?

    Cichszą. Ta jest głośniejsza od tramwaju za oknem.

    A quieter one. This one's louder than the tram outside the window.
