Day 143: The Robot That Wandered Off
In Ostrołęka, Honorata (A) drops in on her mother-in-law, Celina (B), with whom she is still on formal terms after twenty-five years, and notices that the robot vacuum cleaner she gave her is nowhere to be seen.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.

To ustrojstwo? Oddałam je do reklamacji, bo jeździło, gdzie chciało, i nie wracało do stacji.
That contraption? I took it back as faulty, because it went wherever it liked and never came back to the dock.

On your own? I bet the shop insisted it was the manufacturer's problem.

They tried, but I worked in retail for forty years. It's the shop that's responsible for faulty goods, not the manufacturer.

What I don't understand is where you got proof of purchase from, since I've got the receipt.

A bank statement was enough, Honorata. My son sent it over, so I know where you bought it and how much you paid.
