Day 169: Three Weeks of Silence
On the way to work in Tarnowskie Góry, a young man (A) complains to his colleague (B), who gives him a lift every morning, about a shop that has not answered his complaint.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

I've had it with that shop. Three weeks ago I sent in a complaint about my coffee machine, and not a word.

To świetnie. Sklep ma na odpowiedź ustawowe czternaście dni, a jeśli milczy, reklamację uważa się za uznaną.
That's great. By law, the shop has fourteen days to reply, and if it says nothing, the complaint counts as accepted.

Czyli wygrałem, nic nie robiąc? Pięciu kolegów radziło mi iść do sądu, a ty mówisz, że wystarczyło czekać.
So I've won by doing nothing? Five of my mates told me to take them to court, and you're saying all I had to do was wait.

I'd hold off on suing. Just forward them that email and add that the deadline has passed.
