Day 171: The Midnight Witness
Late on Christmas Eve in MrÄ…gowo, after the Wigilia supper, a seven-year-old boy (A) asks his father (B) about an old legend, while the family dog, Kulka, dozes under the table.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Tak głosi stara legenda. Ale podobno ten, kto je podsłucha, ma potem pecha przez cały rok.
That's what the old legend says. But apparently whoever eavesdrops on them has bad luck for a whole year.

To nie będę podsłuchiwał, tylko zapytam Kulkę. Niech powie wszystkim, że to ona stłukła bombkę ogonem!
Then I won't eavesdrop, I'll just ask Kulka. She can tell everyone it was her tail that broke the bauble!

Szukasz świadka? Tylko pamiętaj, że Kulka widzi wszystko, co się dzieje pod stołem.
Looking for a witness? Just remember, Kulka sees everything that goes on under the table.
