Day 62: Volunteered by a Smartwatch

In his kitchen in Tczew, Artur (A), a manager at a large company, tells his daughter Milena (B), who has dropped in for coffee, about the smartwatch she gave him for his birthday.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.

    That watch you gave me for my birthday tells me to stand up every hour.

    I bardzo dobrze, tato. Przecież lekarz zalecał ci więcej ruchu.

    Good thing too, Dad. The doctor did tell you to get more exercise.

    Ale gdziekolwiek usiÄ…dÄ™, zaraz siÄ™ odzywa. Wczoraj nawet na zebraniu z zarzÄ…dem.

    But wherever I sit down, it soon starts buzzing. Even at yesterday's meeting with the board.

    Tylko mi nie mów, że wstałeś przy całym zarządzie.

    Don't tell me you stood up in front of the whole board.

    Wstałem akurat wtedy, gdy prezes pytał, czy ktokolwiek chce poprowadzić nowy projekt.

    I stood up just as the CEO was asking if anyone at all wanted to lead the new project.

    Gratuluję entuzjazmu. Tylko przez ten projekt będziesz siedział za biurkiem jeszcze dłużej.

    Congratulations on your enthusiasm. But because of that project, you'll be sitting at your desk even longer.
