Day 66: Saving Starts on Monday

In a second-hand clothes shop in Mielec, Nikola (A), a sixteen-year-old who has been saving her pocket money, asks the shop assistant, Hubert (B), about a jacket with no price tag.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.

    Przepraszam, ile kosztuje ta kurtka? Nigdzie nie ma ceny.

    Excuse me, how much is this jacket? There's no price on it anywhere.

    Tu sprzedajemy na wagę. Dziś jest dostawa, więc kilogram kosztuje osiemdziesiąt złotych.

    We sell by weight here. It's delivery day today, so it's eighty złoty a kilo.

    O rany, to prawie całe moje kieszonkowe. A kiedy będzie taniej?

    Oh gosh, that's nearly all my pocket money. So when will it be cheaper?

  4. B

    Ciuchy tanieją z dnia na dzień, a w sobotę wszystko jest po pięć złotych.

    The clothes get cheaper by the day, and on Saturday everything's five złoty.

  5. A

    Serio? To może schowam ją do soboty pod któryś z tych swetrów?

    Seriously? So maybe I could hide it under one of those jumpers till Saturday?

  6. B

    Niestety, nie wolno. Zresztą od rana chowało ją już kilkanaście osób.

    Sorry, that's not allowed. Besides, a dozen or so people have hidden it since this morning.

    Kilkanaście? Dobra, biorę ją dzisiaj, a oszczędzać zacznę od poniedziałku.

    A dozen? OK, I'm taking it today, and I'll start saving on Monday.
