Day 76: Back to the Peloton

One evening in their flat in Zamość, Ilona (A) greets her husband Sławek (B), who has spent the whole day by the road waiting for the Tour de Pologne to come through town.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    No i jak, widziałeś kolarzy? W wiadomościach podano, że etap wygrał Polak.

    So how was it, did you see the cyclists? The news said a Pole won the stage.

    Stałem przy samej trasie od dziewiątej. Zobacz, co rzucali z samochodów reklamowych!

    I was right by the road from nine. Look what they were throwing from the publicity cars!

    Śliczna czapka. Ale ja pytałam o kolarzy.

    Lovely cap. But I was asking about the cyclists.

    Poszedłem tylko po zapiekankę i akurat wtedy przejechali. Cały przejazd trwał kilkanaście sekund!

    I only went to get a zapiekanka, and that's exactly when they came past. The whole thing lasted fifteen seconds or so!

    Wiem, pokazali cię w telewizji. Z zapiekanką i tyłem do trasy.

    I know, they showed you on TV. With a zapiekanka, and your back to the road.

    Tyłem? No trudno, w przyszłym roku biorę kanapki z domu.

    My back? Oh well, next year I'm bringing sandwiches from home.
