Day 97: Five Roofers at One Table
At a country inn near Gołdap, Marika (A), who has just moved from Warsaw into an old house nearby, asks the waiter, Tobiasz (B), for help.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Excuse me, do you know a local roofer? Every time it rains, water pours into my bedroom.

That'll be tough. There are five of them in the whole district, and they're all booked up until autumn.

Then turn round, discreetly. All five of them are having lunch by the window.

Great! I'll go over and tell them I'm the new neighbour from Warsaw.

Na pani miejscu nie wspominałbym o Warszawie. Słysząc to słowo, od razu liczą sobie podwójnie.
If I were you, I wouldn't mention Warsaw. The moment they hear that word, they charge double.
