   Bo to bestseller, a o bestsellerach mało kto mówi uczciwie. Kilkaset tysięcy sprzedanych egzemplarzy to jeszcze nie argument.

   Because it's a bestseller, and hardly anyone talks honestly about bestsellers. Several hundred thousand copies sold isn't an argument in itself.

   Romansu nie ocenia się jak kandydata do Nobla, tylko po tym, czy daje czytelnikom to, czego szukają.

   You don't judge a romance like a Nobel contender, but by whether it gives readers what they're looking for.

   Szukają też odrobiny staranności. Bohaterka w trzecim rozdziale ma zielone oczy, a w dziesiątym piwne.

   They're also looking for a bit of care. In chapter three the heroine has green eyes, and in chapter ten they're hazel.

   To zwykły błąd redakcyjny. Przyznaj jednak, że akcja wciąga jak mało który kryminał.

   That's just an editing slip. But admit it, the plot grips you like few crime novels do.

   Wciąga, bo każdy rozdział ma ten sam banalny koniec: ktoś trzaska drzwiami i wyjeżdża nad morze. Tak się pisze seriale, a nie powieści.

   It grips you because every chapter has the same trite ending: somebody slams a door and goes off to the seaside. That's how you write a TV series, not a novel.

   Ciekawe, bo w sobotę widziałem cię na spotkaniu z autorką w bibliotece. Stałaś z naręczem jej książek w kolejce po autograf.

   Funny, because on Saturday I saw you at the author's event at the library. You were in the queue for her autograph with an armful of her books.

   Z kilkoma, bo krytyczka musi znać cały dorobek autorki, zanim go zmiażdży. To się nazywa rzetelność.

   With a few, because a critic has to know an author's entire output before she tears it apart. It's called being thorough.

   A dedykacja „Dla mojej największej fanki” to też rzetelność? Autorka pochwaliła się nią na Instagramie, a kilku znajomych już mi ją przesłało.

   And the inscription 'To my biggest fan', is that being thorough too? The author showed it off on Instagram, and several friends have already forwarded it to me.
