Day 20: The Snoring Jury
Outside a cinema in Poznań during a children's film festival, Agnieszka (A) asks her son Franek (B), a member of the children's jury, how the voting is going.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Jest nas pięcioro i każdy chce czego innego. Tymek nawet się obraził.
There are five of us and everyone wants something different. Tymek's even in a huff.

Mnie najbardziej ujęła ta animacja o latarni morskiej, choć finał był dość przewidywalny.
I was most taken with that animated film about the lighthouse, though the ending was fairly predictable.

Tam przez pół filmu tylko fale szumią! Wolę ten o psie detektywie.
For half the film it's nothing but the sound of waves! I like the one about the detective dog better.

Cisza i powolne tempo to też środki wyrazu. Nie każdy film musi bombardować widza efektami.
Silence and a slow pace are means of expression too. Not every film has to bombard the audience with effects.

Ale i tak wygra pies. Na tym o latarni zasnęło nas troje.
The dog's going to win anyway. Three of us fell asleep during the lighthouse one.

No cóż, trudno o bardziej miarodajny test. Z chrapiącą widownią się nie dyskutuje.
Well, you can't ask for a more reliable test. There's no arguing with a snoring audience.
