Day 4: The Dog Clause
At home in Bydgoszcz on the last day of the school year, Staś (A) waves his school report at his father, Marek (B).
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Pamiętam. Punkt pierwszy: syn, uzyskawszy średnią pięć zero, otrzymuje psa.
I do. Clause one: the son, having achieved an average of five point zero, shall receive a dog.

But I only missed it by a tiny bit! It's because of that four in PE.

Niestety, „trochę” w umowach się nie liczy. Zawsze ci mówię, żebyś czytał, zanim coś podpiszesz.
Unfortunately, "a tiny bit" doesn't count in contracts. I always tell you to read things before you sign them.

Ale ja miałem wtedy osiem lat! Pani mówiła, że dzieci nie mogą podpisywać umów.
But I was eight then! Our teacher said children can't sign contracts.

Ciekawy argument. Tylko że umowa podpisana przez ośmiolatka jest nieważna, więc nie masz podstaw do roszczeń.
Interesting argument. Only, a contract signed by an eight-year-old is void, so you've got no grounds for any claims.
