Day 7: It's Dad Who Got Lost

During the Lajkonik parade on the Main Square in Kraków, Ola (A), a passer-by, finds Hania (B), a little girl in tears.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Hey, what's wrong? Are you lost?

    Chciałam zobaczyć, czy ten konik ma prawdziwe nogi. I tata zniknął.

    I wanted to see if the little horse had real legs. And then Dad was gone.

    Chodź pod pomnik, żeby nikt cię nie potrącił. Zaraz zadzwonię na policję.

    Come over to the statue so nobody knocks into you. I'll ring the police right away.

    Tylko niech pani nie mówi, że płakałam.

    Just please don't say I was crying.

    Dzień dobry, dzwonię, aby zgłosić zagubione dziecko. Dziewczynka, na oko siedmioletnia, odłączyła się od ojca, z którym przyszła na pochód.

    Hello, I'm calling to report a lost child. A girl, about seven by the look of her, got separated from the father she came to the parade with.

    Proszę pani, ja mam osiem lat! I to nie ja się zgubiłam, tylko tata.

    Excuse me, I'm eight! And I'm not the one who got lost, Dad is.

    Poprawka: dziewczynka ma osiem lat. Proszę powiadomić patrol, że czekamy na zgubionego tatę pod pomnikiem Mickiewicza.

    Correction: the girl is eight. Please let the patrol know we're waiting for her lost dad by the Mickiewicz statue.
