Day 73: The Missing C

In the library of their secondary school in Inowrocław, classmates Olek (A) and Pola (B), who run their class's mini-company, hold an emergency meeting. The school is named after the poet Maria Konopnicka.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Zwołałem nadzwyczajne posiedzenie zarządu. Mamy dwieście bluz, na które poszedł cały kapitał, i literówkę w nazwie szkoły.

    I've called an emergency board meeting. We've got two hundred hoodies that ate up all our capital, and a typo in the school's name.

    No pięknie. Mimo że sprawdzaliśmy projekt z pięć razy, nikt nie zauważył brakującego „c” w „Konopnickiej”?

    Just great. Even though we checked the design about five times, nobody noticed the missing 'c' in 'Konopnicka'?

    Drukarnia, z którą mamy umowę, wydrukowała dokładnie nasz plik. Czyli sami to zawaliliśmy.

    The print shop we've got the contract with printed exactly what was in our file. So we messed it up ourselves.

  4. B

    Choć wizerunkowo to wtopa, błąd może być atutem. Znaczki z błędem bywają warte fortunę.

    It may be a PR disaster, but the mistake could be a selling point. Stamps with misprints can be worth a fortune.

    W liceum imienia poetki bluza z literówką w jej nazwisku? Polonistka nas zje żywcem.

    At a school named after the poet, a hoodie with a typo in her name? Our Polish teacher will eat us alive.

  6. B

    Polonistka kupi pierwsza. Zrobi z tego łamigłówkę: znajdź błąd na plecach kolegi.

    Our Polish teacher will be the first to buy one. She'll turn it into a puzzle: spot the mistake on your classmate's back.

  7. A

    Dobra, kupuję ten pomysł. Tylko przy obecnej cenie ledwo wyjdziemy na zero.

    OK, I'm sold. But at the current price we'll barely break even.

  8. B

    To podnosimy cenę o dwadzieścia złotych i dopisujemy: „edycja limitowana”. A za rok robimy literówkę celowo.

    Then we put the price up by twenty złoty and add 'limited edition'. And next year we make the typo on purpose.
