Day 75: The White Coat Effect
On a tram in Chorzów, Mr Czesław (A), a pensioner on his way home from the doctor's, asks the young woman sitting next to him, Adrianna (B), to read out what his doctor has written.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Certainly: "Suspected white coat hypertension, home blood pressure readings recommended for two weeks."

Białego fartucha? Zmierzywszy mi ciśnienie trzy razy, pokręciła tylko głową i zaczęła pisać.
White coat? Having taken my blood pressure three times, she just shook her head and started writing.

To zwykle nic groźnego, raczej reakcja na stres niż schorzenie. Ciśnienie rośnie panu pewnie tylko w gabinecie.
It's usually nothing serious, more a reaction to stress than an illness. Your blood pressure probably only goes up in the surgery.
