Day 78: Initials on the Beam
At the Kashubian open-air museum in Wdzydze Kiszewskie, Sandra (A) and her grandmother Helena (B) stop in front of the wooden cottage Helena grew up in.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Grandma, according to the sign, your cottage was taken apart in the seventies and it took a year and a half to put it back together here.

Pamiętam, jak przyjechali z muzeum. Każdą belkę oznaczono numerem, a ja płakałam, jakby zabierali mi dzieciństwo.
I remember them coming from the museum. Every beam was marked with a number, and I cried as if they were taking my childhood away.

Podobno aż trzy czwarte belek przetrwało przenosiny, a reszta to wierna rekonstrukcja.
Apparently as many as three quarters of the beams survived the move, and the rest is a faithful reconstruction.

This beam definitely isn't a new one, because my initials are on it. I scratched them in as a child.

Back then it was just an ordinary house, not a monument. Anyway, I've already served my sentence: a week of minding the geese.
