Day 82: Anonymous in a Team of Five
By the bins outside their block of flats in Dzierżoniów, Mirosława (A), who works in the office of a logistics firm, asks her neighbour of fifteen years, Lidia (B), who works at the town hall, for advice.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Pani Lidio, dobrze, że panią spotykam. Z centrali przyszła do nas anonimowa ankieta oceniająca kierowników.
Lidia, I'm glad I've run into you. Head office has sent us an anonymous survey rating the managers.
-
B
I co w tym złego? Wreszcie może pani napisać, co pani naprawdę myśli o kierowniku.
What's wrong with that? At last you can write what you really think of your manager.
-
A
Tylko że w dziale jest nas pięcioro, a kierownik zna każdego z nas na wylot.
Except there are five of us in the department, and our manager knows every one of us inside out.
-
B
Rozumiem. W tak małym zespole anonimowość to raczej pobożne życzenie niż gwarancja.
I see. In a team that small, anonymity is more wishful thinking than a guarantee.
-
A
Właśnie. Dwoje stażystów nie szczędzi pochwał, a dwoje najstarszych pracowników krytykuje wszystko jak leci.
Exactly. The two interns are full of praise, and the two longest-serving people criticise absolutely everything.
-
B
Znam panią od piętnastu lat: zawsze ma pani wyważone zdanie. Czyli to pani ankietę kierownik rozpozna od razu.
I've known you for fifteen years: you always take a balanced view. So yours is the survey your manager will recognise straight away.
-
A
Otóż to. W całym dziale tylko ja jestem neutralna: ani zachwycona, ani wściekła.
Precisely. In the whole department I'm the only neutral one: neither thrilled nor furious.
-
B
U nas w urzędzie też kiedyś była taka ankieta. Anonimowa, tylko oddawało się ją kierownikowi do rąk własnych.
We had a survey like that at the town hall once too. Anonymous, except you had to hand it to your manager in person.
-
A
U nas przynajmniej wrzuca się ją do skrzynki. Stojącej, niestety, tuż przy biurku kierownika.
At least we put ours in a box. One that stands, unfortunately, right next to the manager's desk.
