Day 50: For the Pharmacy's Health
At a pharmacy in Legnica, Mrs Danuta (A), a pensioner in a smart hat, comes up to the counter and asks the young pharmacist, Adrian (B), for a consultation.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Good morning. I've come for a consultation, because the adverts tell you: 'Before use, read the leaflet or consult your doctor or pharmacist.'

Well then, I'm all ears. Which medicine is the consultation about?

Wszystkich z wczorajszego bloku reklamowego: na wątrobę, na stawy, na zgagę i na chrapanie męża.
All the ones from last night's ad break: for the liver, for the joints, for heartburn and for my husband's snoring.

W tym sęk, że nic. Nie bolą mnie ani stawy, ani wątroba, a przecież w moim wieku coś powinno.
That's just it: nothing. Neither my joints nor my liver hurt, and surely at my age something ought to.

Fachowo nazywa się to zdrowie. Gratuluję, ale na to akurat nic nie mamy.
The technical term for that is 'health'. Congratulations, but that's the one thing we've got nothing for.

What do you mean, nothing? Then at least give me something for my health, one of those supplements by the till.

Na zdrowie to mogę pani najwyżej powiedzieć, jak pani kichnie. A te przy kasie są głównie na zdrowie apteki.
The most I can give you for your health is a 'bless you' when you sneeze. And the ones by the till are mainly for the pharmacy's health.
