Day 108: Donating Blood on a Saturday

In the waiting area of a blood donation bus parked on the market square in Żagań, Lech (A), a first-time donor, turns to Sonia (B), a young woman waiting next to him.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Przepraszam, pierwszy raz oddaję krew. Mam coś zjeść przed badaniem?

    Excuse me, it's my first time giving blood. Should I eat something before the check-up?

    Koniecznie, na czczo mogą pana odesłać. Proszę, mam w torbie banana.

    Definitely, they might turn you away if you haven't eaten. Here, I've got a banana in my bag.

    Dziękuję. Kolega, który oddaje krew od lat, mówił, że dostanę czekolady i dzień wolny.

    Thank you. A colleague who's been giving blood for years told me I'd get chocolate and a day off.

  4. B

    Czekolady tak, ale dzień wolny należy się tylko w dniu oddania krwi. A dziś jest sobota.

    The chocolate, yes, but you only get the day off on the day you give blood. And today's Saturday.

    No to pięknie. A da się go przenieść na poniedziałek?

    Well, that's just great. Can it be moved to Monday?

  6. B

    Niestety nie. Ale czekolady da się rozłożyć na cały tydzień.

    I'm afraid not. But you can make the chocolate last the whole week.
