Day 25: Better Noise Than Smog

On a frosty morning in Pszczyna, Beata (A) stops her neighbour Iwona (B) outside their houses.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Iwona, your chimney's finally stopped smoking!

    Mam pompę ciepła. Dostałam dofinansowanie z programu „Czyste Powietrze”.

    I've got a heat pump now. I got a grant from the Clean Air programme.

    Wiem, słyszę. Ta hałasująca skrzynka stoi akurat pod oknem mojej sypialni.

    I know, I can hear it. That noisy box sits right under my bedroom window.

    Aż tak głośno? Im większy mróz, tym ciężej pracuje, niestety.

    Is it that loud? The harder the frost, the harder it works, I'm afraid.

    Wolę hałas niż smog. Ale może da się coś z tym zrobić?

    I'd rather have noise than smog. But maybe something could be done about it?

  6. B

    Zadzwonię do firmy, niech ją przeniosą pod moje okno.

    I'll call the company and have them move it under my window.
