Day 67: A Discount for the Damp Wall

In the kitchen of a rented flat in Nowy SÄ…cz, which is up for sale, flatmates Oliwia (A) and Ewelina (B) ask their landlord, Mr Witold Pietrzak (C), how yesterday's viewing went.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Panie Witoldzie, i co? Para, która wczoraj oglądała mieszkanie, kupuje?

    Witold, so how did it go? Are the couple who viewed the flat yesterday buying it?

    Wyglądali na zachwyconych, zwłaszcza widokiem na góry.

    They looked thrilled, especially with the view of the mountains.

  3. C

    Niestety zrezygnowali. Ktoś im powiedział, że zimą ta ściana robi się cała mokra.

    I'm afraid they've pulled out. Someone told them this wall gets soaking wet in winter.

    Bo się robi. Zgłaszałyśmy panu dwa razy, a grzyb jak był, tak jest.

    Because it does. We reported it to you twice, and the mould's still there, same as ever.

  5. C

    Grzyb zostanie usunięty w tym miesiącu. Tylko kto teraz kupi mieszkanie z taką opinią?

    The mould will be removed this month. But who's going to buy a flat with a reputation like that now?

  6. B

    My. Właśnie dostałyśmy z Oliwią kredyt, tylko na trochę mniejszą kwotę.

    We will. Oliwia and I have just got a mortgage, only for a slightly smaller amount.

    Panie chcą kupić? To już wiem, kto tak szczerze pokazywał kupcom mieszkanie.

    You two want to buy it? Now I know who gave my buyers such an honest tour of the flat.
