Day 71: Whose Bumblebees?

Over the fence between their gardens in Września, Przemek (A) asks his neighbour Cezary (B) about his uncut lawn.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Panie Cezary, u pana trawa już po kolana. Nie będzie pan kosił?

    Cezary, your grass is already knee-high. Aren't you going to mow it?

    Nie. To łąka dla pożytecznych owadów, w maju nawet miasto nie kosi.

    No. It's a meadow for beneficial insects; in May, even the council doesn't mow.

    Owady rozumiem. Nie rozumiem natomiast, dlaczego moja kosiarka też ma wolne.

    The insects I understand. What I don't understand, though, is why my mower's having time off too.

    Ach, ta, którą pożyczyłem w kwietniu? Stoi w garażu, cała i zdrowa.

    Oh, the one I borrowed in April? It's in the garage, safe and sound.

    Czyli w moim ogrodzie może jednak wrócić do pracy?

    So it could go back to work in my garden after all?

    Zaraz przyniosę. Tylko przy płocie proszę nie kosić, tam mieszkają moje trzmiele.

    I'll bring it right over. Just please don't mow by the fence, my bumblebees live there.

    Po mojej stronie płotu? To od dziś są moje trzmiele.

    On my side of the fence? Then as of today, they're my bumblebees.
