Day 16: Holding On to Lewy

On an Intercity train to Gdynia, Magda (A), a young woman checking the markets on her phone, notices that Lenka (B), a girl travelling with her dozing grandmother, is peeking at her screen.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Polish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Polish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Wtedy straciłabym na pewno. Kupuje się tanio, a sprzedaje drogo, nie odwrotnie.

    Then I'd lose for sure. You buy low and sell high, not the other way round.

    Ja też zainwestowałam! Kartę z Lewym kupiłam za dwa złote, a Szymek daje dwadzieścia.

    I've invested too! I bought a Lewy card for two złoty, and Szymek's offering twenty.

    Dziesięciokrotne przebicie? Sprzedaj, bo w razie spadku popytu zostaniesz z kawałkiem kartonu.

    Ten times your money? Sell, because if demand drops, you'll be left with a bit of cardboard.

    Nie ma mowy. Jak Lewy skończy karierę, ta karta będzie warta fortunę.

    No way. When Lewy ends his career, this card will be worth a fortune.

    Ryzykowna strategia, ale szanuję. To może sprzedasz mi ją, zanim Lewy przejdzie na emeryturę?

    Risky strategy, but respect. So how about selling it to me before Lewy retires?
